A Neighbour Who Preferred Not to Be Photographed

She grew up on Depot Road, in a block that has since been repainted so many times she jokes she couldn't describe its original colour if asked. What she remembers instead are sounds — the specific creak of the corridor gate, the calls of hawkers whose routes don't exist anymore.

Her story is no smaller for being unphotographed. It just asked to be kept a little differently.
