Halimah Osman
[Dummy content for preview purposes.] Halimah has lived along the edge of Gillman Barracks for almost forty years. She remembers when the fence line was somewhere you walked your children to sleep, pointing out which building used to be which, though half the names had already changed twice by the time she learned them.
What she misses most, she says, isn't any single building. It's the particular quality of quiet in the early morning, before the estate wakes up, when the forest at the edge of the barracks still holds the night's cool air.
She isn't sure what she'll tell her grandchildren, years from now, about the place. Maybe just that it was ordinary, and that ordinary was enough.
